This page explains how to have the data Sparro holds about you from Instagram deleted: your comments on the account @sparroapp, messages you sent to it, and mentions of it. You do not need an account with Sparro, and you do not have to do anything on Instagram first.

How to ask for deletion

Send an email to nicklas@ceero.eu with the subject Instagram data deletion. Give the Instagram username you commented or wrote with, ideally with a link to your comment. For a message, say roughly when you wrote to us, because we cannot find a conversation from a username. If you have a reference from Meta, include it. We never ask for your Instagram password. If we doubt the request comes from you, we may ask for more information so that we do not delete or hand over anything for the wrong person.

What we delete

We delete your comments on our posts, the messages you sent to the account and the reply drafts that belong to them, the events from Meta that concern you, and the text in the assistant's log that belongs to your comment or conversation. Queued tasks that point at what was deleted are cancelled. The log rows remain, but without the text.

What we keep afterwards

To honour your request we keep a minimal memory list: keyed hashes of your username, your Instagram-scoped ID and the IDs of the comments we deleted. It holds no readable text and no username, and we cannot tell whom a hash belongs to without knowing the username. It makes sure what was deleted is not fetched again from Instagram, and it has no end date. We also keep one log row saying that a deletion took place: who at Sparro did it, a random request ID, which kinds of data you gave (username, ID or comment ID, not the value itself) and the number of rows deleted. If you write to us again after the deletion, we treat it as a new enquiry.

What we cannot delete

We delete only what is on our side. What you wrote on Instagram is also held by Meta and stays visible on the account until you or Meta remove it. You can delete your own comments and messages in Instagram.

How long it takes

We delete without undue delay and within one month of receiving your request at the latest (GDPR Article 12(3)). If the case is complex, the deadline can be extended by up to two further months, and we tell you within the first month. You get a confirmation by email when it is done. Without a request we also delete automatically after fixed periods, as stated in the Instagram section of the privacy policy.

If you removed the app via Meta

Sparro only has access to its own Instagram account. You have not given us access to yours, so there is normally no app to remove. If you have nonetheless asked Meta to delete data you shared with Sparro, we are not notified automatically today. Send us an email as described above and we handle it as a deletion request; feel free to say that it comes via Meta.

Disagree or want to complain

If you think we have not handled your request correctly, write to nicklas@ceero.eu or complain to the Danish Data Protection Agency, Datatilsynet (datatilsynet.dk).

Data controller

Sparro is operated by Ceero ApS, which is the data controller. Details about the company and the full policy, including the Instagram section, are in the privacy policy.
